Need something to accompany the eating of all those leftovers? You’ll find plenty here.
E4 – I almost can’t get into words how awesome this block of TV is. Alright, the newer Star Trek film is a bit dodgy and you have to ignore the two episodes of Friend’s in the middle but, come on. The original Star Trek film, Young Sherlock Holmes and Romancing The Stone in the same day near enough back to back? Astounding.
BBC1 – Ah, top drawer film this. A near perfect fusion of live action and animation, it’s a superb love letter to the old Warner Bros/Disney cartoon shorts. And it’s got a proper scary bad guy as well. Proper. Scary.
BBC1 – Years ago I read Robert Rodriquez’s book about the making of El Mariachi and there was a little aside about a script he wrote for a kids film. Then, several years later, here it is! Madness! It’s also a hoot and a great kids film.
Film4 – Following on from the Star Trek block earlier, here’s Star Trek V! Yeah, alright, this one is pretty ropey. But the interplay between Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley keeps the film going and is worth watching the film for this alone.
BBC1 – This might at first appear to be a film that is somewhat outside of our usual remit but, dammit, it’s just a really good film that spins the Disney Princess cliche into the real world. Throw in a superb parody of one of Snow White’s famous scenes and you have an absolute treat. Honest.
BBC2 – The second of the Top Gear specials this Christmas, this one has the team crossing the Middle East in cars or something. Should be funny for those that enjoy Top Gear.
Film4 – Emotionally distant and the end is a bit rubs but that still doesn’t stop this film being an absolute belter. The two leads dominate the film which also has some of the most tense sequences in recent film history. Well worth getting this one watched.
ITV4 – A near perfect film. No really. How can you make this film any better? Go on, how? You can’t. So it’s a perfect film. See? Told you.
BBC2 – It’s the Kitten Kong episode! One of the highlights of British comedy, here, tonight! Get it watched!
BBC1 – Now we’re talking! Lou Gossett Jr! Planes! Fried chicken! What more do you need?
E4 – Speaking of perfect films, here is Ridley Scott’s definitive alien-killing-people-in-spaceship film. A treat at any time of the year.
